The problem
Algeria's insurance market runs at 0.8% of GDP, against 4.5% in Morocco and 6.8% worldwide. More than 90% of households and businesses carry no cover at all.
That gap is not a demand problem. It is that manual processes make the product slow, opaque and hard to trust — which is exactly what people say when you ask them why they don't insure anything. Claims take too long, service runs through branches, and nothing is visible while you wait.
What we did
An assessment and advisory engagement covering claims, customer service and policy administration, delivered as a three-phase roadmap with ROI modelling for each use case.
The benchmark
- 1
The part that mattered most was the benchmark. Instead of generic “AI in insurance” material, we anchored the whole roadmap on one closely matched peer: a public insurer in a neighbouring market of similar age, similar market position, similar motor-heavy book and similar branch economics, which had already completed the same transformation and published its results.
- 2
That changed the conversation. The board was not being asked to believe a projection. They were being shown what happened to a company that looked like them.
What we recommended
| Horizon | Priority |
|---|---|
| 0-6 months | Multilingual conversational agent for customer service, intelligent document processing on claims files, robotic automation of policy administration |
| 6-18 months | Fraud detection, predictive claims analytics, connected agricultural cover, behavioural motor pricing |
| 18+ months | Full digital customer journey, telematics products, automated-trigger cover, proprietary data platform |
Each recommendation carried a ROI model and a benchmark from a comparable deployment, so the sequence could be challenged line by line rather than accepted or rejected as a whole.
What’s next
The assessment and advisory phase is complete. Implementation is in progress across the short-term priorities, with the medium-term products sequenced behind them.
